Ever since Toyota Motor Company"s Celica was introduced in 1970, this popular automobile has continued to set standards in the specialty car category. In October 1993, Toyota publicly announced the sixth generation Celica. Its striking exterior design is a departure from the previous concept and gives it and aggressive look. Contributing to this new look is the implanting of the four irregular shaped head lamps that replace the previous retractable units. The so called Coke Bottle curvature of the body shell side panels is further accentuated using flowing lines that make the car look massive yet remains aerodynamically functional. The top of the line Celica SS-II (GT for the export model) uses the type 3S-GE, 2 liter, four cylinder DOHC engine which produces 180 horsepower. Matched to this powerful engine is a highly sophisticated suspension system incorporating MacPherson struts with refined geometry and alignment. In addition, a viscous type Limited Slip Differential is used to enhance the already impressive handling of the vehicle. The ergonomically designed interior, although sports car oriented with bucket seats, is fitted with electronically controlled air conditioning and the latest audio-sound system, for the utmost in driving comfort and listening pleasure. Toyota"s latest automotive creation has produced a specialty car that will please both sports car fans and automobile aficionados.
