The Mazda 787B was developed to win the 1991 Le Mans 24 Hours endurance race. It was powered by a R26B four-rotor rotary engine which incorporated advanced features such as a telescopically variable intake manifold, triple-plug ignition system, and peripheral port fuel injection. Two 787Bs (No.55 and No.18) as well as a 787 from the previous year (No.56) constituted Mazda"s lineup at the 1991 Le Mans race. All three eventually finished in the top-10, with No.55 taking the checked flag after 362 laps while No.18 and No.56 took 6th and 8th places respectively. Although overshadowed by the race winner, the No.18 car driven by D. Kennedy, S. Johansson, and M. Sandro Sala also deserves mention. This car started from 23rd place on the grid and worked its way up the field to 5th place before a component replacement at the 17th hour mark thwarted hopes of a Mazda 1-2 finish. The Tamiya 1/24 scale model faithfully replicates the full scale race car in every detail and the kit includes Cartograf decals.
